State Level Review on Child Protection Mechanism with District Child Protection Units (DCPU) in Telangana State
The state level review consultation meeting, organized by the Centre for Child & Youth Justice at NALSAR University of Law in collaboration with the Department of Women Development & Child Welfare, Government of Telangana, and UNICEF, aimed to review and discuss the child protection mechanisms in Telangana, with a focus on District Child Protection Units (DCPUs). The primary purpose was to bring together various stakeholders involved in Juvenile Justice and Child Protection to assess current practices, share experiences, and address challenges in the field.
The meeting covered a wide range of topics crucial to child protection. It began with an introduction to the Mission Vatsalya Portal, highlighting its functionalities and importance in streamlining child protection efforts. DCPU staff from various districts presented their activities and challenges, providing insights into ground-level operations. The event also featured discussions on DCPU responsibilities, legal challenges in child protection, and the significance of convergence in child protection efforts. The keynote address by Smt. Vakati Karuna focused on Mission Vatsalya, emphasizing its role in enhancing child protection mechanisms at the state level.

Vakati Karuna, IAS (Secretary of WCD & SC, Telangana), Prof. Bala Krishna (NALSAR University of Law), and Sri. Sony Kutty George (UNICEF Child Protection Specialist).
