The Centre for Child and Youth Justice is currently involved in a long term project on Access to justice for children funded by Child Right and You (CRY), a prominent NGO working for child rights in India since 1979.  It will address a critical need in India’s child protection landscape. Despite existing laws and policies, children in India continue to face significant challenges, including child marriage, child labor, and trafficking. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these issues, disrupting the environment in which children grow and develop. Moreover, there is a substantial gap in awareness and understanding of child protection laws and initiatives among parents, children, and even duty-bearers at the village level.

This project aims to bridge these gaps and strengthen the child protection framework in India. Through its multifaceted approach, the project is expected to achieve several key outcomes. It will enhance understanding of existing child protection laws and procedures among legal professionals, stakeholders, and the general public. The project will contribute to improving the legal framework governing child protection by identifying gaps and suggesting necessary reforms. By employing multidisciplinary approaches and sharing best practices, it will lead to more effective and holistic child protection strategies. Ultimately, the project seeks to improve access to justice for children and vulnerable populations, aligning with India’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions.
