Orientation Program on Role of Police as per Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and Functioning of Child-Friendly Corners in Police Station, Sangareddy

The Centre for Child & Youth Justice at NALSAR University of Law, in collaboration with UNICEF’s Child Protection Resource Centre and Sangareddy District Police Station, organized a one-day orientation program to address the role of police in implementing the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, and to discuss the functioning of Child-Friendly Corners in police stations. The primary reason for conducting this meeting was to educate and orient police personnel on their responsibilities and best practices when dealing with children in the justice system.

The program covered several crucial topics related to juvenile justice and child protection. Prof. D. Balakrishna provided an overview of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, focusing on its statutory structures and the roles of various stakeholders. Mr. P. David Raj discussed the specific role of police in handling children in need of care and protection (CNCP) and children in conflict with law (CCLs). He also elaborated on the Principle of Diversion and the importance of Child-Friendly Corners in police stations, highlighting implementation challenges. The orientation aimed to enhance the understanding and capabilities of police personnel in dealing with juvenile cases sensitively and effectively.

Superintendent of Police, Sangareddy Dist.), Sri. Raja Reddy (Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Sangareddy Dist.), Smt. Lalitha Kumari (District Welfare Officer, WD&CW Dept, Sangareddy), Prof. D. Balakrishna (Head, Center for Child and Youth Justice, NALSAR University of Law), and Mr. P. David Raj (Program Manager, Child Protection, CPRC-UNICEF).
